Computer Keyboard Keys

If you lose one or two computer keyboard keys you do not have to replace the whole keyboard. You can simply purchase one or a whole set of keys to make up for the one or two that got away. This is very easy to do with standard keyboards, but with laptop computers it is a little more difficult. Either way, you need to find a key (or keys) that fit ergonomically with your keyboard.

Different computer keyboard keys come at different slants, different concave amounts, and different sizes. No two models of keyboard are made alike, which is something not everyone notices before something like a lost key happens. While it certainly is easy to simply purchase a set and put the new ones of the corresponding letters into the slots, they may not be exactly or much like your old keys. This could be a big problem if you are a fast typist or frequently type on the computer, as it can slow you down or throw you off of your typing groove. Color is not so much important in this as the exact shape of the keys themselves.

It may be hard to decipher the shape of your original computer keyboard keys so it may be a good idea to pop one off and take a look a it. Older keyboards tend to have flatter keys than standard ones today, which can be very slanted or concave. Don't worry about replacing the key you took off -- it can be easily placed back into where it came from.

Laptop keyboard keys are more difficult because they are more flat and are generally supported by a small padded chip. Taking them off can be easy, though sometimes so easy that you may break the sensor. There are tutorials on-line for specific models of laptops and how to remove their keys safely and easily.

If you can not find keys that are similar to your original ones you do not have to get a new keyboard. If you so choose, you can purchase a whole set of keys and remove all of the old ones and replace them with the new. This may seem like a waste of time and energy, but if you have a nice keyboard you most likely do not want to have to throw it away and replace it with another expensive model. This can be especially true of multi-function models as it is easy to get used to the conveniences they provide.

Replacing the keys on your keyboard is easy as long as you are careful, it is finding the exact right replacement computer keyboard keys that can be a little more difficult.
